ACSH salutes Cheryl Martin, who is retiring today after more than 45 years of devoted service. Cheryl was initially hired by our founder, Dr. Elizabeth Whelan, as her executive assistant. However, her value to the entire organization led to her promotion to Secretary and Treasurer. At ACSH’s 25th anniversary celebration, Beth presented Cheryl with an award for her dedication to the Council.
After Beth passed away in 2014, Cheryl provided essential continuity, both to ACSH and the individuals and organizations that worked with us. Cheryl’s importance was elevated when ACSH transitioned to remote work around the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, and people were no longer able to collaborate in a physical office. Beth’s husband and Vice Chair of ACSH, Steve Whelan, observed that “it is difficult to conceive of ACSH without Cheryl, and I join the entire ACSH family in wishing her a long, happy and healthy retirement.”
On behalf of our Board of Trustees, writing staff, and our dedicated readers, we thank you Cheryl for your hard work and dedication.
